Week 4 Posting - Drivers

Within my few years of supporting operating systems, I have came across one issue more than any else, DRIVERS! Yes, the software or firmware that is installed that tells the computer on how to interact with the hardware is often the leading cause to PC issues for HP and Dell computer based off my experience. I mostly work with Windows products, so it is easy for this issue to be resolved by rolling back drivers or by looking for new ones, however on Linux many times it is not as easy. Just today the audio refused to work with one of my client computers and after some diagnosing a simple reset of the device or re-installing the audio drivers fixed it, this is common for Wi-Fi drivers as well. Based off of the Wikipedia link in for week 4, I came across how the drivers are developed. There is many terms that I have never needed to know prior to learning about the development stages, and frankly I am glad that is not what I do.

Week 3 - CPU, RAM and Firmware

CPU firmware and ram work together and rely on each other to function, the CPU is the beating heart, it provides data to the rest of the computer and tells what each component should do, this is not possible with the constant support of ram, without ram the CPU would be really slow due to how fast it can process information. Once the data is in ram the CPU can read it and talk with the firmware or bios about what steps needs to be used. Lets say an audio file plays and the file loads up in ram, the data is sent to the CPU that directs the firmware to enable sound and at what decibels and for how long creating sound. The whole process of creating sound happens so fast that it is hardly known as a delay.

Week 2 Posting - Operating Systems

When it comes to operating systems or OS for short there are a few well known options, with the largest market share it would have to be Microsoft Windows followed by MacOS, ChromeOS and various linux distros. Not every OS is created equal and not ever OS will be as clean as the previous or next version. Take windows 11 for an example, when it was released to the public as a steady build there was still many software issues, one of my largest issues with Microsoft is why they would publish a product without the proper testing and fixing some issues. Of course, some software might mess with the OS and cause an error but the fact that Windows 11 shipped as windows 8 did being “ahead of its time” is not a compliment. When it comes to raw performance a lighter OS will always be better. There are a few ways an operating system can be interacted by a user, TUI such as Linux without a desktop environment, or a Windows server core install or a SSH/telnet into MacOS. In each of these case...

Week 1 Posting - Intro

This blog was created to share my learning pathway for BSIT 200-T301. This course is a little over 10 weeks long and will include many items that I find interesting and items that I would like to follow closer. I will be uploading to this site until the end of the course and once again this site will not exist, I am a advocate for privacy and any writings in the cyber domain are stuck online forever. I found myself scared after watching some trials of others in the last few years being ruined due to something that was said over 10 years ago and just surfaced recently. Blogging has it place, for those who are willing to share a portion of oneself to the world, frankly that is not me and there is nothing wrong with that.
